Smith, Taylor competed at NCAA Championships

Oswego State wrestlers Derrick Smith (141 pounds) and Jake Taylor (285 pounds) competed at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on March 7 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Smith and Taylor both lost their first two matches of the tournament and were eliminated.

Smith finished his season with an 11-4 record, while Taylor finished the year with a 29-9 mark.

The Oswego State wrestling team earned national recognition as one of 25 NCAA Scholar Teams, as sponsored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

The Oswego State wrestling team competed in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships on Saturday in Oneonta. The three Laker tri-captains were all place winners at the tournament, and Derrick Smith and Jake Taylor earned at-large berths to the NCAA Championships via their second-place finishes.

The Oswego State wrestling team lost to The College of New Jersey 26-13 and defeated the host University of Scranton in a pair of dual meets on Saturday morning in Scranton, Pa.
