Field experiences with real kids are an integral part of all initial teacher education programs at SUNY Oswego. From your first education course through student teaching and beyond, you will be supported by talented faculty and professionals in school settings to develop your skills as a beginning teacher.
All placement assignments are made by the Field Placement Office, in consultation with the faculty of each program. More information about the practica and student teaching experiences required by each program is available through each department and from:

Spring 2009 Student Teacher Orientation
All C & I Adolescence, Childhood, and TESOL Education graduate and undergraduate candidates who will student teach during the SPRING 2009 semester must attend the mandatory Student Teacher Orientation Meeting which is on a date and time TBD in the Sheldon Hall, Ball Room. Prior to the orientation meeting, please read the Student Teaching Handbook. After the Orientation, the EDU 430/530 K-12 Teaching for Social Justice Sourcebook will be available for purchase*, and then you will meet with your College Supervisor for information about your student teaching requirements.
*As a convenience to you, the College Store will have the sourcebook available for purchase for about $20 after the Student Teacher Orientation Meeting.
Fall 2009 Student Teaching Applications
Student Teaching Application Packet Information will be available by signing up for and attending one of the Pre-Student Teaching Application Seminars (see dates and instructions). The application will be due on Wednesday, February 4, 2008, at 3:00 PM.
Pre-Application Student Teaching Seminars for all C&I Adolecence and Childhood & TESOL Candidates who will be Student Teaching in the Fall 2009
Bob Casper, Director of Career Services, will conduct a workshop on how to write an effective letter of introduction and resume (both application documents for student teaching) plus other topics, such as job application cover letter, specific content development and editing and proofing techniques.

Several seminars will be available for Student Teacher cadnidates to choose from, each held in the a Campus Center classroom. Each candidate who wishes to student teach during Fall 2009 must *register for and attend one of the six sessions:
- Wednesday, October 22, 2008 - 11:00 am - 12:45 pm & 5:00 pm - 6:45 pm (Located in Campus Center 136)
- Thursday, October 23, 2008 - 1:05 pm - 2:20 pm (Located in Campus Center 220)
- Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 12:45 pm - 2:00 pm (Located in Campus Center 220)
- Friday, October 31, 2008 - 9:45 am - 10:45 am & 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm (Located in Campus Center 136)
Make-Up Date: If you were unable to attend one of the six sessions listed above there will be a make-up session held on Monday, November 24, 2008 - 10:15am - 11:15am in 220 Campus Center.
Candidates will be able to pick up their student teaching application packett when they attend one of the seminars.

Practicum Orientation for EDU303/503
All C & I Adolescence, TESOL, and Childhood Education candidates who are registered for a EDU303/503 Practicum this Fall will be responsible for attending one of the two Practicum Orientation sessions for Fall 2008.
Sessions will be held on September 12th in the Sheldon Hall, Ball Room. You will be responsible for registering for one of these sessions when you sign up for a Practicum. Session 1 begins at 9:00am and Session 2 at 11:30am. Additionally, there will be orientation sessions for all candidates placed at LeMoyne Elementary School at 10 am and 1 pm in the East Conference Room in Sheldon.
