The School of Communication, Media and the Arts provides students with the opportunity to study in an atmosphere that fosters innovative thinking, encourages dynamic collaborations and scholarly-artistic endeavors among students who have compelling interest in communication and self expression. The school offers a wide variety of major and minor options for Oswego students. Whether you desire to be a concert pianist, sports broadcaster, political speech writer, graphic artist, theater lighting designer, or filmmaker, the School of Communication, Media and the Arts has a program designed to let you excel.
Our goals are to provide you with:
a challenging learning experience for imaginative, questioning students
an understanding of the history and traditions of art, music, communication and theater
opportunities to explore cultural values that provide a basis for understanding the human experience.
a sense of the importance of civic engagement and global awareness
The school combines the strengths of programs in art, music and theater with the highly diverse department of communication studies. The school provides students with the opportunity to study both individual, discrete programs in communication, media and the arts, as well as new interdisciplinary programs that develop organically out of the growing trends in media convergence, artistic performance and communication interconnections.
We're proud to say that our art, music and theatre programs are nationally accredited and our broadcasting, public relations, and graphic arts programs are listed among the top programs by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
Alumni from the various programs have found success professionally. Graduates from the different areas of the school have had many successes at the regional, national and international level, often attaining prominence in their fields.
