Community Impact

Every year, thousands of learners earn degrees from SUNY Oswego to help them pursue better lives. But the college also actively supports and enriches the Oswego County and Central New York communities.

The college has an annual total economic impact of $169.4 million for Oswego County. This includes employment, goods, services and reinvested resources. SUNY Oswego's total economic impact to a seven-county region in Central New York is $326.3 million per year.

But the college's benefits exceed economics. Every year, around 1,000 student interns and volunteers provide expertise, energy and enthusiasm for local businesses, nonprofit agencies and causes. The college's Office of Business and Community Relations secures training funds for local industry and small businesses, teaches micro-enterprise programs, and offers many other resources to support the local workforce. Research funding underwrites several local projects that concern the Great Lakes basin and ecosystem.

SUNY Oswego also provides a wealth of artistic and cultural resources, such as a performing arts program that provides top-notch entertainment, Tyler Art Gallery presenting traveling and student exhibitions, and any number of activities open to the campus and community.

Oswego is one of 35 colleges and universities in New York’s Creative Core, the central Upstate region that is emerging as a national leader in the new, green economy. Together, we’re creating ideas and new technologies, developing a highly skilled workforce and growing a new generation of energized leaders.
