SUNY Oswego - Community Relations

The Division of Community Relations of the Office of Business and Community Relations is available to connect the community to the resources of SUNY Oswego. Some of the areas that the Division focuses on are;

The Division's Non profit efforts consist of providing technical assistance in the areas of Governance, strategic planning, and organizational development. The staff have worked with over 30 different non profits to provide assistance facilitating board retreats, focus groups, long range planning and a variety of other areas. Additionally, OBCR staff have assisted with the integration of major changes brought on by Sarbanes-Oxley legislation and continuous development in the IRS Form 990. The Office regularly hosts workshops on issues directly affecting the operations of non profits that include financial management and human resources.

Sheldon Roundtable Public Issues Forums are another function of the division. The staff are available to assist in the logistic of putting a forum together. Some of the past forums have been on the topics of;

College Community Partnership on the Arts

Group Facilitation is another service that the division provides. Currently staff are assisting several organization that will improve the quality of life in the community.

One of these groups is the Oswego Arts Collaborative. This group developed from the Forum on the Arts and work with the Oswego 2020 Arts Council , and is currently meeting to develop the collaborative for the purpose of Economic Development. The collaborative is surveying arts groups and individual artist to determine the needs of the community. If you would like to participate in the survey, click on the item below. Special Projects are also facilitated by the division. Recently the staff completed an Impact study for 11 Nonprofit Organizations in Oswego County and is planning a forum on non profits for late 2008. If you would like to view the study click on the link below.

Leadership Programs provided by the Office include the Leadership Oswego County Adult and Youth Programs. These programs are entering their 17th year of operation and claims over 300 alumni. For more information check the Leadership Oswego county pages on this site.
